Siem Reap (FN), August 10 - The Apsara Authority has begun the demolition of illegally built structures in zones one and two at Angkor Site.

The project is expected to last roughly two weeks, according to Ly Somrith, deputy governor of Siem Reap.

On August 1, 2017, Siem Reap provincial administration and the Apsara Authority issued a formal notice regarding the removal of illegal dwellings in Zone One and Two at Angkor Site as of August 10.

“The authority gave seven days for people, who illegally built houses during the commune election, to remove the structures voluntarily,” according to the announcement.

The authority asked people to voluntarily remove their houses before the 9th of August, otherwise the authority will take action in accordance to legal procedures.

More than 500 illegal structures were built during the commune election.
