Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 4 – Cambodian scholar assigned by the government to lead a research on Cambodia-Vietnam border said at a press conference on Feb.4 that border issues between Cambodia and Vietnam that have been brought up by the opposition party were only intended to cause trouble.

Dr. Sok Touch, head of the Royal Academy’s Border Research Group said that the maps that have been used by Um Sam An, an opposition lawmaker, and Sam Rainsy, President of the Cambodia National Rescue Party, both of whom are in self-exile to avoid imprisonment, were of no use.

Referring to different maps that the opposition party member and leader claim to have found from some other countries including France and the U.S. and have taken as the grounds for their legal wrangle, Sok Touch said his group has had them already and that the opposition just trying to «Stir up trouble».

The press conference was held to present the results of a seven-month research project of a 500-km portion of Cambodia-Vietnam border, covering four provinces namely Kampot, Kandal, Svay Rieng, and Tbong Kmum.
