Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 4 – FUNCINPEC Second Vice President wrote to Minister of Interior to ask that the ministry invalidates the outcome of the party’s extraordinary congress held on 19 January last year on the ground that the congress was not held in compliance with the party’s bylaw.

Bun Chhay said in the letter dated Feb. 4 that the congress as well as post-congress implementing steps were all quite a contrast to what had been agreed upon at the meeting of top leaders of FUNCINPEC and CRPP that was held on 1 January 2015.

Prince Ranariddh changed both the slogan and logo of the old FUNCINPEC which was established by late King Norodom Sihanouk and also set up a new structure of the party at both national and local level with so much in favor of the CRPP, Bun Chhay added.

The party’s extraordinary congress was held with the aim of officially recognizing the return of Prince Norodom Ranariddh to the party presidency and with a new structure set up after FUNCINPEC, at that time under the leadership of Keo Puth Reasmey, and the prince’s newly-formed Community of Royalist People's Party (CRPP), were merged together.

Gen. Khieu Sopheak, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, could not be reached for comments.

Nheb Bun Chin, spokesperson for FUNCINPEC, said Bun Chhay, as a vice president, was wrong as far as the procedures are concerned and he could not seek the congress outcome nullified.
