Phnom Penh (FN), August 24 - Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information, clarified that the government did not shut down RFA and VOA and urged the public to not be falsified by untrusted source.

The clarification was made on Thursday morning at a press conference at the Ministry of Information following the rumor that the government plans to shut down VOA and RFA.

"We only shut down those who violated the law. VOA and RFA can still broadcast in Cambodia through AM," stated the minister.

On August 10, the Ministry of Economy and Finance requested Ministry of Information to take action on any media institutions that operate without license and tax registration.

Following the request, the information ministry decided to shut down Mohanokor Radio Station that violated the contract deposited at the Ministry.
