Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 8 - The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that the United States' reaction to recent political developments in Cambodia appeared to not be based on democratic principles in regards to its conduct to other countries on democratic issues and respect for human rights.

The reaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was made after the U.S. Department of State issued a Declaration on December 6, 2017, restricting visas of some Cambodian officials and their families, accusing it of affecting democracy after the dissolution of the former opposition party.

The spokesperson also added that with the growth in political parties in Cambodia, democratic development and multi-party systems will continue to exist.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that Cambodia is committed to holding a free and fair national election on July 29, 2018.
