Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 12 - Som Sorida, deputy secretary general of National Election Committee (NEC), said on Tuesday that the European Union (EU) disconnection does not affect the election process in Cambodia.

The NEC has sufficient national budget for senate election and parliamentary elections in 2018, and now China is a strong supporting force for Cambodia's elections, besides Japan and Korea.

The announcement came after the EU suspended its support for the NEC, which was made after Cambodian opposition party was dissolved on November 16, 2017, according to a press release issued by the EU on Tuesday.

In the EU press release, the decision to dissolve the CNRP and to allocate the seats of the National Assembly and the Commune councils to other parties is a refusal for the vote of the people who participated in the 2013 and 2017 elections.

"So far, the NEC has already prepared both the budget and material, human resources and jobs related to two elections in 2018, and we plan for $2 million in senator election and $52 million in parliamentary elections. NEC already has a budget, which means that the government has already approved this package”, stated Som Sorida.
