Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 19 - Heng Ratana, Director General of Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC), said that in 2017, CMAC had cleared 8,636 hectares of landmines and destroyed 37,448 landmines and ammunitions.

Heng Ratana added that CMAC has also educated people about landmines risk, rescued people from explosive weapons, identified landmines locations, and destroyed the founded explosive bombs.

He said that in 2018, first year of implementing the National Strategic Plan of Mine Action 2018-2025, CMAC plans to clear 116 square kilometers of landmines and can destroy up to 50,000 explosive ammunitions.

Meanwhile, he called on Cambodians to preserve peace and safety that CMAC and the whole country provides; and strengthen the connection among one another, not depending on international community.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has introduced a strategy to eradicate land mines and unexploded ordnances throughout Cambodia by 2025.
