Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 24 - In the era of peace and development, we often see a word “ patriotism” from common people, political parties and some political activists on their social network.

The question is what attitude defines patriotic?

According to Roth Sondab, Khmer civilization expert, "patriotism" means loving the nation including its people, independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty. They cover spirit and material support .

Being "patriotic" is not just about saying, it requires actions that represents national interest, dignity and people.

"Patriotism" does not mean that one’s country is better than another. It does not mean the detachment from the rest of the world. In contrast, "patriotism" shall be linked to the international community, and the relations shall be based on equality and mutual benefits.

Nowadays, some political activists or some politicians use the word "patriotism" to gain support and attention. For instance, they often make the slogan "I would rather die than letting my nation die", but what they said did not correspond with their actions. Some people urge the foreign countries to stop import and investment. That is an act of letting one nation die.
