Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 29 - National Road Safety Committee distributed helmets in various provinces and cities across the country on Friday to encourage Cambodians to wear helmets on a daily basis.

Traffic-related slogans have been widely used in this campaign, such as inspiring people to obey traffic laws, explain the effects of road accidents, and the risk of driving without helmet use.

Traffic police officers were deployed on the street to intercept a motorcyclist without a helmet, and to educate and answer questions to get helmets.

More than 50,000 helmets were sponsored to the National Road Safety Committee to distribute. The committee plans to distribute 26,200 helmets.

According to the report, there have been 3,234 cases of accidents, causing 1,617 deaths and 5,107 injured in 2017, decreased of 104 cases, increased 41 deaths, and decreased 855 of those injured compared to the same period in 2016.
