PYONGYANG, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Wednesday cautiously welcomed the outcomes of the high-level meeting with South Korea, while warning Seoul against the U.S. ambition to keep the peninsula permanently divided.

Pyongyang's official daily Rodong Sinmun published a commentary saying the key for improving inter-Korean relations is to raise high the flag of "Our Nation Only" while opposing any intervention by outside forces.

"National independence and self reliance are (the) lifeline of movement of reunification of the fatherland and for solving all the problems of our nation. It is unlikely to solve (the) North-South problem by relying on outside forces," it said.

The daily called on the South Korean government to "scrap any illusion of outside forces" and be fully aware of the ambition of the United States to dominate Northeast Asia by sacrificing the interests of the Korean nation without blinking.

"The United States wants the Korean Peninsula permanently divided so that it can ride over this region. The South Korean government must see clearly this face of America," it said.

The Korean Central Television reported Tuesday's inter-Korean talks in a separate program in the afternoon. The Korean Central News Agency reported Monday night the event by publishing the joint communique issued by the meeting at the truce village of Panmunjom, describing the talks as "earnest."

The DPRK and South Korea agreed Tuesday to cooperate in making the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics a success, take measures to ease tension on the peninsula and continue the process of rapprochement.
