Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 11 – After closing the 2nd Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Meeting on January 10, 2018, the six Mekong-Lancang countries are committed to supporting 4 measures for political and security cooperation in the region, according the Phnom Penh Declaration of the 2nd Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Meeting released on January 10, 2018.

The statement stressed that the political and security cooperation is crucially important to Mekong-Lancang Cooperation initiative.

The multi-level cooperative mechanisms are the effective channels for facilitating communication, strengthening policy coordination and enhancing political mutual trust.

Mekong-Lancang countries commit to support 4 actions as following: (1) Promote high-level exchanges and dialogues among political parties, parliaments and government officials in line with the spirit of MLC; (2) Strengthen cooperation to safeguard sub-regional peace and stability while upholding the principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs; (3) Deepen law enforcement dialogues and cooperation in combating non-traditional security issues on mutual interest; (4) Enhance cooperation in the field of disaster prevention and mitigation, humanitarian assistance, climate change’s impact, ensuring food, water and energy security, including data information exchanges.

Phnom Penh Declaration of 2nd Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Meeting addressed 12 recognitions and committed to support 4 core principles such as political and security cooperation, economic and sustainable development cooperation, social, cultural and people to people exchanges, and cooperation supports.
