Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 19 - Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera, Deputy Head of Cuban Communist Party Central Committee’s Department for External Relations, announced that the Communist Party of Cuban government respected Cambodia's decision on current political conditions, including legal action against Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) and its leaders.

Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera's announcement was made in a courtesy call with Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation at the ministry on Friday.

During the meeting, Cambodian Foreign Minister described the situation and issues related to political developments in the country, including legal action against opposition leaders and CNRP, according to the ministry’s press release on Friday.

Minister Prak Sokhonn highlighted the visit of the Cuban delegation as a great opportunity for the two countries to discuss ways of strengthening and expanding friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and the Republic of Cuba.

He also recalled the discussion exchange with Cuban Foreign Minister in the United Nation General Assembly in New York on September 2017 in strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation, and appreciated the progress achieved by the reforms in Cuba.

Senior Minister expressed gratitude to the Cuban government and People for providing assistance to the Cambodians after the liberation of the Khmer Rouge genocide.

Prak Sokhon also welcomed to raise the Head of the delegation of Cuba's intention to strengthen cooperation, particularly in education by providing scholarships to medical students and the cooperation between Cuban International Relations Institute and Cambodian Diplomatic Institute established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
