Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 2 – Nhek Bunchhai, Former Deputy Prime Minister and President of Khmer National United Party (KNUP), was sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Friday to be further inquired related to the drug crime in Kompong Speu Province, according to Phnom Penh Municipal Court’s official.

Nhek Bunchhai is under the inquiry of investigation judge of Phnom Penh Municipal Court Ly Lipmeng.

The statement of Phnom Penh Municipal Court stressed that Nhek Bunchhai, 59, was charged on two crimes include conspiracy to produce drug and import the substances to produce drug under article 29 of Penal Code and article 38,32 (new) of the Amendment of Law on the Control of Drug 2005.

Nhek Bunchhai was arrested on August 3, 2017 related to the drug production case at Phnom Srouch district, Kompong Spue Province in 2007.

In 2007, the authority cracked down the drug production site in Kompong Spue Province owned by Chea Chung, an advisor to Nhek Bunchhai.

The authority found a lot of raw materials to produce drug and a white patrol car which used to drive ahead Nhek Bunchhai’s car.

The witnesses claimed that that site is a cow farm. They often see Nhek Bunchhai accompanied by Chea Chung.

Chea is currently being detained in the prison on the drug producing crime with two Chinese and one Thai.
