NEW DELHI, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- India will hold talks with Israel to acquire anti-tank guided Spike missiles in the national capital on Monday, local media reported.

Indian Defense Secretary Sanjay Mitra will negotiate with visiting Israeli Defense Secretary Major General (retired) Udi Adam a deal to buy 3,000 Spike missiles manufactured by Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, Hindustan Times newspaper reported, quoting unnamed officials.

Spike is an Israeli fourth generation, man-portable, fire-and-forget, anti-tank guided missile and anti-personnel missile with a tandem-charge HEAT warhead, developed and designed by the Israeli's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.

India in November last year scrapped a nearly 1 billion U.S. dollars deal to buy Spike missiles from Isreal. Reports at the time said that the deal was junked to encourage local defense manufacturing under Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet Make in India initiative.

India last year successfully testfired its home-made, fire and forget, anti-tank guided missile Nag -- equipped with imaging infrared radar (IIR) seeker. Nag has been developed at a cost of 46.8 million U.S. dollars.
