Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 5 – Deputy Prime Minister Ke Kim Yan, President of National Authority for Combating Drug (NACD), urged all related officials to put efforts in preventing drug trafficking through Laos border gate, northeastern area of Cambodia.

His statement was made in the Annual Meeting of NACD, held at Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Monday.

Ke Kim Yan said that “the drug trafficking through Laos’s border gate and airport is still higher than other areas. In 2017, the authority confiscated 100 kilogram drugs at the border. In 2018, we need to strictly prevent and inspect the border to ensure the security and safety to the Cambodian people”.

Meas Virith, Secretary General of General Secretariat of NACD, said that in 2017, the authority cracked down 8,173 drug cases, an increase of 92% compared to 2016 which was 4,246 cases.

Police arrested 17,877 drug suspects in 2017, confiscated 173kg of drug. In 2016, police arrested 7,826 drug suspects and confiscated 300kg of drug, according to Meas Virith.
