Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 7 - Japan is cooperating with Cambodia to train Cambodians on elderly care and send to Japan, according to Ith Samheng, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training.

The statement was made during a meeting on Tuesday in Phnom Penh between Fumio Yamada, Japan and Cambodia Interactive Association (JCIA) and H.E. Ith Samheng.

Fumio Yamada said that human resources for elderly in Japan are still low and that elderly nursing will both benefit Cambodia and Japan due to the growing number of aging people.

JCIA is working to attract more Japanese investors to Cambodia, hence need further cooperation and support from the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training.

In response, the minister said that Cambodia is developing a policies and human resources for eldercare and some companies are working on establishing the center for eldercare.

He added that with more than 6,000 ageing people in Japan today, there will be more recruitments and trainings, while JCIA is working hard seek more partners to contribute to the training and outreach of this projects.

Fumio Yamada stressed that not only trainings on eldercare skill are needed but also Japanese language for communications.
