Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 8 - Prime Minister Hun Sen launched a rice production policy and promoted rice exports in 2011.

The initiative helped boost Cambodia's rice export to 2.5 million tons for a period of five years 2013-2017, according to the Statistics of the Secretariat of One Window Service for Rice Export Formality.

The top 10 companies that helped expand Cambodia’s rice export include Khmer Food, Amru Rice, Baitang, Golden Rice, Cristal Rice, International Rice, City Rice, Nicoline Investment, TOT, and Apsara Rice.

Oknha Kim Savuth, President of Khmer Food, the major rice exporter, expressed his delight at the positive results over the past five years. At the same time, he expressed gratitude for the progress of Cambodia's rice sector and many new companies entering the sector.

Song Saran, President of Amru Rice, the second largest rice exporter, said the results helped create more than 250 jobs in his companies. In addition, farmers could access to more market, opened up opportunities for Cambodian rice, market for the next generation, and proud of Cambodian rice sold in foreign markets.

As of January 2018, Cambodia has more than 50 rice exporters exporting to more than 60 countries in the world.
