Kampong Cham (FN), Feb. 9 - The Head of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Prime Minister Hun Sen warned on Friday that from 12:00 A.M tonight, overloaded trucks are not allowed on the road, as they seriously damage the infrastructures that the government has invested so much time and effort.

Prime Minister also warned to withdraw the position of the governors of any province if the overloaded trucks still operate within their areas of authority, speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of a new Mekong River Bridge connecting Kampong Cham Province to Tbong Khmum Province.

The construction of the bridge and the road is estimated to cost approximately $57 million and the project will be completed in 2021 with a duration of approximately 42 months.

“All overloaded trucks must be redesigned. Now, each province and district must be responsible for this case. Do not forget that it takes only 24 hours to remove the provincial governor while only 15 minutes for the district governor. If there is any protest from the company’s owner in front of my house, I will arrest and imprison them”, stated PM Hun Sen.

He called for all citizens especially drivers to be cautious while driving and warned to shut down companies that use overloaded trucks.

In 2017, the government monitored 923,657 vehicles. Among those, 2,953 vehicles’ loads exceeded from 4 tons to 43 tons. The Royal Government received a fine of $1.5 million.
