Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 9 - Sar Kheng, Minister of Interior, said that Cambodia never avoided receiving Cambodian deportees from the United States.

His statement was made in a meeting with Carl Risch, U.S’s Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs, on Friday afternoon in Phnom Penh.

Minister Sar Kheng said that Cambodia agreed to welcome the deportations of Cambodian convicts from the U.S based on the agreement between both parties in 2002 and 2003.

"Cambodia has never avoided the obligation to receive Cambodian deportees, but everything has to be thoroughly checked and discussed”, stated Sar Kheng.

The minister also asked the U.S side to continue to increase the financial support of the deportees to assist their livings in Cambodia and successful integration into Cambodian society.

Sar Kheng also hoped that the U.S would consider removing visa restrictions from Cambodian Foreign Ministry's officials.

Carl Risch has yet responded as he required further discussions to find the solutions to the disagreements and the requests.
