Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 22 – Over the past two weeks, experts have discovered additional 14 new bomb sites amounting to 40 sites in total located in Koki Commune, Romeas Hek District, Svay Rieng, Cambodia, Heng Ratana, General Director of the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) reported to Fresh News on Thursday.

The Director General expressed his deep sadness specifically to the children suffering from the U.S chemical and cluster bombs.

Heng Ratana said, "We have about 50 cases of a childbirth with disability – brain and limbs. It is painful to see terrible suffering".

According to the report, 109 people went for a health checkup at Svay Rieng Referral Hospital from October 10, 2017 to February 13, 2018; among those, 109 affected by the bombs.

Heng Ratana appealed for the gathering of health and the environment scientists and chemists to assess the impact in order to have a proper basis for resolution.

The Convention on Chemical Weapons states that the country owning chemical weapons shall bear responsibility for the clearance of these weapons. Following this convention, the United States has an obligation to clear those chemical bombs and pay the damages.

According to CMAC’s database with the confirmation of the former US President Bill Clinton in 2000, the US had dropped approximately 2.8 million tons of bombs during 1963 to 1975.
