Phnom Penh (FN), March 8 - The vice minister in charge of the global environment of the Japanese Environment Ministry has confirmed that the Government of Japan is ready to strengthen the cooperation with Cambodia in the field of the environment through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The statement was made during the meeting with Environment Minister Say Sam Al in the 9th East Asia High-Level Seminar (HLS) on Environmentally Sustainable Cities (ESC), held on March 8-10, 2018 in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Japan has helped Cambodia restore and build infrastructure and participated in reducing the economic hardship, health issue and clean water in Phnom Penh.

Japan planned to coordinate with Cambodia to improve waste management, waste disposal, climate change, biodiversity and sustainable urbanization.

Cambodian Environment Minister Say Sam Al expressed gratitude towards the Japanese Government for contributing to Cambodia’s development.

Senior officials from the region’s environmental and urban line ministries, city authorities and development partners will share and promote their latest ideas and initiatives on sustainable city development; exchange knowledge and explore collaboration potential; and develop specific recommendations on practical cooperation activities on environmentally sustainable cities to the East Asia Summit Environment Ministers Meeting, which includes ASEAN Environment Ministers, according to the press release.
