Phnom Penh (FN), March 13 - National Election Committee (NEC) spokesman Hang Puthea, has requested the United Nations to set up its own office at the NEC’s headquarter to observe the forthcoming 6th National Assembly elections in order to avoid any skepticism in Cambodia's elections.

The proposal was made during the meeting with UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Cambodia, Rhona Smith, at NEC’s headquarter on Tuesday.

Rhona Smith expressed concern about the upcoming 6th National Assembly elections and urged the NEC to ensure that citizens could equally express their willingness in choosing their own representatives.

She also urged the NEC to implement regulations in order to ensure equitable competition.

NEC spokesman responded that NEC is committed to organizing free and fair elections.

The 6th National Assembly Election will be held on July 29, 2018.
