Phnom Penh (FN), March 30 – China is Cambodia's largest trading partner and investor, Xiong Bo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Cambodia said at CAEXPO Cambodia Exhibition 2018 on Friday morning at the Diamond Island Exhibition and Convention Center in Phnom Penh.

“The bilateral trade volume between China and Cambodia in 2017 was worth over $5 billion, an increase of 21.7% compared to 2016,” said Chinese Ambassador.

He added that in 2017, Chinese visitors to Cambodia rose to 1.2 million, an increase of 46% compared to 2016, making Chinese the top visiting tourist of Cambodia.

Chinese investors also ranked the first in Cambodia since 1994 with a total investment of $15 billion, according to the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC). Most of the investments focused on energy, garment industry, banking and finance, telecommunications, construction and real estate, tourism and agriculture sector.

The CAEXPO Cambodia Exhibition 2018 is an important forum to promote economic, trade, politics, diplomacy and culture between the two countries, especially developing investment opportunities and business activities as well as building regional and local markets within the framework of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area and Cambodia-China comprehensive cooperation. The forum also promotes regional economic integration.
