ANKARA, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The bill for snap elections on June 24 was submitted to the parliament late Wednesday, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim and opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli signed the bill.

According to the elections rules, the parliament's general assembly is expected to debate the motion on April 20 and 21 after it is ratified by the constitutional commission.

Earlier Wednesday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced to hold snap presidential and parliamentary elections on June 24,2018, over a year before the scheduled date, November 3, 2019.

"We are immediately launching the legal process regarding the matter, and Turkey's Supreme Election Board will also start preparations for the elections as soon as possible," he said.

The seats of two parties, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and MHP, at the parliament are sufficient to vote for early elections, but the government also has to legislate the law that regulates the procedures and principles of the presidential elections.
