Phnom Penh (FN), April 20 - National Election Committee Secretary-General Tep Nytha and Kirth Chantharith, National Police Deputy Chief, on Friday, confirmed that 80,000 armed forces to be deployed during the National Assembly Election is to ensure public order and security, not a threat.

The confirmation was made after people expressed concern over the excessive number of armed forces to be deployed.

Tep Nytha added that such number of force is required in response to the increase of polling stations.

“It is not a threat! The security force is responsible for maintaining security and order for the election process," said Kirth Chantharith.

According to Tep Nytha, there will be 23,000 polling stations for the upcoming election.
