Phnom Penh (FN), April 25 - Cambodia has been considered as one of the most progressive countries in reducing poverty, according to a statement of the Ministry of Economy and Finance dated on Wednesday.

The statement was made during the Economic and Financial Policy Committee Meeting on “Sustainable Development Goals 2016-2030” of the Ministry with the presence of Aun Pornmoniroth, Minister of Economy and Finance, and Planning Minister Chhay Than, as well as senior management from the Ministry of the relevant institutions.

Cambodia’s Sustainable Development Goals 2016-2030 Framework is a synthesis of global sustainable development goals and Cambodia's development priorities. The draft provides a clear vision and responsibility of the government to further pursue the Millennium Development Goals 2000-2015, which Cambodia has reduced poverty from 21.1% in 2010 to 13.5% in 2014.

Cambodia achieved the goals earlier than the targets of the Millennium Development Goals, which set 19.5% in 2010 and 13.8% in 2018.

The decline in poverty rate coincides with the World Bank's estimation, which announced in 2015 that Cambodia has escaped from “Extreme Poverty” line and is considered the region's best-performing country in poverty reduction.

In addition, the vulnerabilities caused by severe hunger have been completely eliminated and the rate of children and maternal mortality have declined significantly, reflecting a high level of social support by the Royal Government.

Cambodia’s Sustainable Development Goals 2016-2030 Framework is the foundation for Cambodia Vision 2050.
