MANILA, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine Navy said on Friday that it has sent a 300-strong contingent to Lombok, Indonesia to participate in the Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK) that will kick off next week.

MNEK 2018 is to be held from May 4 to 9 in the waters of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara in Indonesia.

MNEK 2018 will be the third to be hosted by Indonesia following 2014's inaugural MNEK in Batam, Riau Islands, and the MNEK 2016 in West Sumatra's provincial capital of Padang and the Mentawai Islands.

Philippine Navy spokesman Capt. Lued Lincuna said the series of exercises will be held ashore which includes subject matter expertise exchanges lectures, and afloat where sea and air assets, and special operations teams from participating navies will conduct combined maneuvers to address various contingencies at sea.
