Phnom Penh (FN), May 1 - Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) put effort in legal advocacy against Italy that requested the European Union to put pressure on Cambodian rice.

Moul Sarithy, Secretary General of the CRF said that CRF organized a recent meeting with relevant ministries to solve rice issues in the European Union.

He added that the CRF also spent budget to hire international lawyers and supplement adequate documents for EU in response to various Italy's allegations against Cambodian rice.

The issue in Europe happened towards a single type of rice, "white rice", and not fragrant rice, said Moul Sarithy adding that Cambodia also reduced exporting white rice to the EU.

In 2017, Cambodia exported 630,000 tonnes of rice to 60 countries, of which over 270,000 tonnes are exported to the EU, accounting for more than 40% of total rice exports.
