Kampong Speu (FN), May 29 – May 29, 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the services and sacrifices of peacekeeping forces, who sacrificed their lives for the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission.

The commemoration ceremony was held at ACO military base in Kompong Speu province on Tuesday, attended by Gen. Sem Sovanny, Director General of the National Center for Peacekeeping Force, Mine and ERW Clearance, and representatives of UN, diplomats and families of the lost Cambodian UN peacekeepers.

According to Gen. Sem Sovanny, since 1948, at least 3,700 peacekeeping forces nationwide have lost their lives.

Today, 813 Cambodian army forces, 50 females, are carrying out UN peacekeeping missions in five countries.

Over the last decade, Cambodia has sent 5,486 peacekeepers, 254 females to 10 missions in eight countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Cyprus, Syria, Chad, Mali and Central Africa.

2018 marks the 12th year that Cambodia has sent forces to join the UN mission with other 123 countries around the world.
