Phnom Penh (FN), June 9 - Khmer National United Party (KNUP) held a congress Saturday morning to announce the appointment of Nhek Bun Chhay as the president of KNUP replacing Sing Kiri.

The appointment was made following Nhek Bun Chhay's release on bail to race in the July’s election.

The congress was held at Phnom Penh's Chroy Changvar district with the participation of members of KNUP and media outlets.

Nhek Bun Chhay was released on bail by Phnom Penh Municipal Court on April 30, 2018.

He was arrested on August 3, 2017, charged of drug cases committed on April 1, 2007.
