TRIPOLI, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Ambassador to Libya Ahmet Aydin Dogan on Sunday stressed Turkey's support for the UN-backed Libyan government.

Dogan made his remarks here during a meeting with Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Serraj, according to a statement issued by the prime minister's information office.

The ambassador reiterated Turkey's support for the Libyan government, praising Serraj's efforts to achieve stability in Libya, the statement said.

"The Prime Minister stressed the importance of the historical relations between Libya and Turkey, expressing appreciation for Turkey's support for the path of consensus and participation in the Paris meeting, which approved holding of parliamentary and presidential elections on a sound constitutional basis," the statement said.

Libya's rival political parties met on May 29 in Paris and agreed to hold presidential and parliamentary elections on Dec. 10.

According to the above mentioned statement, the Turkish envoy and Libyan prime minister also discussed the return of Turkish companies to Libya to resume suspended projects.

Most foreign companies in Libya, including the Turkish ones, had to leave following the 2011 uprising due to the deteriorating security conditions in the conflict-torn country.
