Phnom Penh (FN), June 13 – Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) strongly protested against the US’s Treasury Sanction on Cambodian General Hing Bun Hieng, Head of the Prime Minister Bodyguard Unit and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.

“MFAIC dismisses the purported engagement of Cambodian armed forces in a series of serious violation abuses and crimes against its people [...]," the ministry wrote in the statement on Wednesday.

MFAIC's statement was made in response to the US Department of the Treasury's announcement on Tuesday that they sanctioned Cambodian General Hing Bun Hieng for being the leader of an entity involved in serious human rights abuse, pursuant to Executive Order 13818, which targets perpetrators of corruption and serious human rights abuse and corruption.
