Phnom Penh (FN), June 15 - The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) approved the construction of a highway construction project from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville by Cambodian PPSHV Expressway Co., Ltd., which has an investment of $1.8 billion and create 9,515 jobs, according to CDC's Facebook page on Thursday.

Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol said that Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville highway, the first highway in Cambodia, will begin the construction in late 2018.

He added that the project study is done and now the relevant authorities and partners are working on land negotiation and compensations to citizens for the damages.

Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville highway will play an important role in transporting goods for two important economic poles – Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville, particularly goods from various factories to Sihanoukville autonomous port and vice versa.

It is worth noting that Cambodian minister of transport signed an agreement with Chairman of China Communications Construction Company on $2 billion high-speed road project with a length of 190 km, presided over by Prime Minister Hun Sen and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on 11 January 2018.
