Phnom Penh (FN), June 18 - Outgoing British Ambassador to Cambodia William Jesse Longhurst paid a courtesy call on and farewell President of the National Assembly Heng Samrin on late Friday morning 15 June at the National Assembly (NA) Phnom Penh.

William Jesse Longhurst stated that the embassy and the NA had good cooperation in enhancing capacity of female parliamentarians through numerous workshops.

The ambassador stressed that the UK has provided scholarships to Cambodian students, aids on mine action, and other social activities; and that these missions will continue.

President Heng Samrin expressed his gratitude to the United Kingdom for her continuous support to Cambodia over the past six decades of Cambodia-UK diplomacy. The long-term relations and cooperation between the two nations have brought about mutual benefits, particularly tremendous contribution to the development of Cambodia in the present and future.

The president informed the ambassador that the July's election will be held on 29 July 2018 in accordance to Cambodian constitutional law; free, fair, just, and in compliances with democratic principle.

Cambodia is committed to ensuring peace, security, and social order, which are fundamental to economic development, and harmony for Cambodian people, he added.
