Phnom Penh (FN), June 16 - The representative of the Permanent Mission of Cambodia to the United Nations (UN) and other international organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, issued a press release on Friday to dismiss statements by human rights experts dated 14 June 2018.

The representative of the Permanent Mission considered the report unfairly interpreted the Media Code of Conduct issued by the National Election Committee (NEC) as well as misread the law on the Election of Members of the National Assembly (NA).

It is a statement of fact that no provision of the Media Code of Conduct issued by the NEC forbids media from performing its function in accordance with existing laws and regulations, according to the press release of Cambodian Permanent Mission.

The UN Human Rights Experts on June 14, 2018, issued a statement expressing concern on the code of conduct for the NEC's media outlets, and deemed it a violation of the right to freedom of information and expression.
