MANILA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Batangas province in the Philippine main Luzon Island on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the quake, which struck at 12:25 p.m. local time, hit at a depth of 123 km, about 25 km southwest of Nasugbo town in Batangas, south of Manila.

The tremor was also felt in the Philippine capital of Manila.

No reports of damage have been received so far, but the institute said it expects aftershocks from the quake.
