Kandal (FN), July 5 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that selling and drinking alcoholic beverages have been prohibited for the upcoming 6th mandate national election.

Prime Minister Hun Sen said that any individuals who drink alcohol on the election’s day may face penalties as it is contrary to the National Election Committee's rule and regulation, addressing to nearly 30,000 workers in Kandal province on Thursday.

NEC prohibited drinking alcohol during election, from 12 am on 28 July to 12 am on 29 July, according to the premier.

He urged salesmen and saleswomen to suspend their selling alcohols during election and to avoid the deaths or injuries due to alcohols; and hoped that the election proceeded smoothly without any violence and threats.

Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the government put so much efforts for the safety and security of people during the electoral process; the nation’s priority is to ensure a free and fair election. He reminded all the 20 registered parties and candidates not use state budget, petroleum, and any other state properties during the electoral campaign.

He also called on all media to lease hours to all political parties at the same price as the Cambodian People's Party for their propaganda; and urged the national television to provide equal time for broadcastings to all political parties during the campaign.

The July's election will be held on 29 July 2018. All the 20 political parties will participate in the 21 days of electoral campaign from 7-27 July 2018.
