KABUL, Sept. 17 (CGTN) -- At least 24 people were killed and over 30 wounded after an explosion occurred on Tuesday at a campaign rally in the city of Charikar, Parwan province, northern Afghanistan, TOLO News reported.

The blast happened as the country's President Ashraf Ghani began speaking. The president is unharmed.

The explosion was reported as a suicide attack and the bomber was on a motorbike, according to Nasrat Rahimi, the spokesperson for the country's ministry of interior.

After the blast, another explosion occurred close to the U.S. Embassy in the capital city of Kabul, said local authorities. There are no reliable reports on casualties yet.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blasts.
