TOKYO, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 on Saturday struck off the southeast coast of Chiba Prefecture of Japan, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The temblor occurred at 06:22 p.m. local time, with its epicenter at a latitude of 34.7 degrees north and a longitude of 140.7 degrees east, and at depth of 80 km.

The quake logged 4 in some parts of Chiba Prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7.

So far no tsunami warning has been issued.
