BANGKOK, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Kanit Saengsuphan, secretary-general of partial routes of the high-speed train project, linking Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi and U-tapao airports, will be ready for use by the end of 2023.

EEC board, Thailand’s largest developing economic region, has acknowledged the plan to quickly hand over the land to build the high speed train.

If the handover of the land goes as planned, the Phaya Thai station – Suvarnabhumi- U-Tapao will be able to operate at the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, Kanit said.

Meanwhile, the section from Phaya Thai station – Don Mueang Airport is expected to operate later at the end of 2024 – 2025 as large scale infrastructure that is in place already, needs to be removed, Kanit said.

A sub-committee to quickly ensure the handover of the land for the high speed train project, was established by the Ministry of Transport on Wednesday.

The CP-led consortium in mid 2019, won the bid to build the 224 billion baht (7.36 billion U.S. dollars) high-speed railway linking Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi and U-Tapao airports as part of a plan to develop the government's flagship EEC high-tech investment hub scheme.

The 220-km railway network is scheduled to open in 2024. Its trains are expected to be able to reach up to 250 km per hour.

The CP Group on Wednesday confirmed that it will sign a contract with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to develop the high-speed train project linking three airports on October 25 this year.
