MUSCAT, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Oman's culture minister Haitham bin Tariq al-Said was named the successor to Sultan Qaboos, state media reported Saturday.

Qaboos bin Said, who ruled Oman for almost half a century, died on Friday evening at the age of 79, Oman News Agency said.
