BANGKOK, June 22 (Xinhua) -- The Thai government reported on Monday no confirmed local transmissions of the COVID-19 pandemic for the 28th consecutive day.

"The only new COVID-19 cases are the imported ones," said Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

"The CCSA has reported three new COVID-19 cases of Thai nationals returning from India and were detected during the state quarantine."

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Thailand now stands at 3,151 with 58 deaths since January.

CCSA has reported zero new death on Monday too.

In response to growing pleas to reopen entertainment hangouts from operators, Taweesin said that pubs, bars, karaoke parlors and other entertainment venues will be allowed to reopen in the fifth phase of easing the COVID-19 restrictions.

"The official green light to reopen pubs and alike will likely take place in July," said Taweesin.

Musicians and entertainers made an emotional appeal last Thursday to the government to allow them to get back to work as the long closure had put them in extreme financial distress.

Taweesin also said that the fifth stage of easing restrictions will take place, with or without the extension of the emergency decree.

He said that the emergency decree will stay in place at least until the end of June and it can be extended by CCSA if the authorities remain worried about the COVID-19 outbreak.
