NEW DELHI, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) - India's COVID-19 tally rose to 35,368,372 on Saturday, as 141,986 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.

This is the second consecutive day when more than 100,000 new cases were registered in a day in the country.

Besides, 285 deaths due to the pandemic since Friday morning took the total death toll to 483,463.

This is a steep rise in the numbers of new cases in a day, as on Friday 117,100 new cases were reported, on Thursday 90,928 new cases and on Wednesday 58,097 new cases were registered respectively.

There are still 472,169 active COVID-19 cases in the country as there was a rise of 100,806 active cases during the past 24 hours. This is the 11th consecutive day when the number of active cases rose in the country.

A total of 34,412,740 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals so far, out of which 40,895 were discharged during the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the country's Omicron tally has reached 3,071, out of which Maharashtra and Delhi have reported 876 and 513 cases, respectively.
