Tokyo (FN), Feb. 15 – Cambodian army commander lieutenant general Hun Manet met with commander of the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force general Yoshida Yoshihide.

General Yoshida highlighted Japan’s commitment to further support Cambodian armed forces on capacity building and joint military drills in response to non-traditional security threats like cyber attacks, natural disasters, terrorism, and transnational crimes.

Yoshida thanked Cambodia for being the first country in Southeast Asia to support Japan's "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)" strategy for peace, stability and development in the region and the globe.

In response, Manet thanked the people and the government of Japan for their continued support to Cambodia both in the process of seeking peace in the 1980s and peacekeeping missions in the 1990s; and for actively assisting the kingdom’s post-war development process.

The two leaders also praised the outcomes of bilateral cooperation in the past, especially in the military sector. They highly valued and pledged to strengthen and expand the good relations as well as cooperation between the two armies.

At the invitation of the Japanese government, lieutenant general Hun Manet led a delegation to pay a four-day visit to Japan as part of the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of Japan’s contribution to the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (PKO) in Cambodia.
