Phnom Penh (FN), May 3 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen announced that students nationwide will be given priority to receive vaccination against COVID19 to ensure their safety and promote better education.

The premier’s announcement was made on the occasion of his physical meeting with 1,753 Grade A high school students.

"In addition to frontliners, all students nationwide are in a priority group to get vaccinated to ensure the safety of our students,” the premier underlined.

“Today, a package of nearly 2 million doses of Pfizer vaccine has arrived and we will use this vaccine as a booster shot for teachers and students. Students shall get the same treatment like frontliners,” the premier added.

Samdech praised the Ministry of Education as well as teachers nationwide for their efforts to overcome the difficulties caused by the COVID19 pandemic.

The premier also recalled that the Royal Government's decision to close schools in the past during the COVID19 outbreak was to protect the lives of the people, the teachers and the students from the disease as vaccine was unavailable at that time.

Without timely measures, Cambodia could have suffered a tragedy due to the deaths of her people, Samdech continued.

Timely measures and successful vaccination have allowed the kingdom to reopen its socio-economic activities, the premier added.
