DAMASCUS, June 1 (TASS) - Over 7,500 residents of the Syrian Arab Republic have undergone the reconciliation procedure since the start of the year, the majority of them are civilians, but deserters and militants are on the list as well, the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria has told TASS.

This year, reconciliation procedures were held in Syria’s Deraa and Rif-Dimashq governorates, with the latter accounting for over 70% of all cases.

"Overall, more than 7,500 people have regulated their status, including over 5,000 civilians, 2,000 deserters and some 170 militants of the Ali Bash group," the center said.

The procedures were held in a dozen of cities and towns.

Among those who undergo the procedure are also individuals who unlawfully left the country or were falsely accused of crimes. After undergoing all formalities, they receive a certificate allowing them to move freely around the country, apply for a job or seek medical assistance.
