WASHINGTON, Aug 22 (CGTN) - The monkeypox virus has reached all 50 U.S. states, updated data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed on Monday, after Wyoming became the last state to confirm the existence of the disease.

The Wyoming Department of Health WDH on Monday announced the first monkeypox case in a local resident in Laramie County.

CDC data as of Monday afternoon at 1400 showed that the U.S. has 15,433 total confirmed monkeypox/orthopoxvirus cases, with New York state seeing the highest caseload of 2,910.

The U.S. government in early August declared monkeypox a public health emergency more than a week after the World Health Organization qualified the outbreak as a global emergency.
