Paris (FN), Sep. 2 – The French court held a hearing on 1 September 2022 over the lawsuit against former opposition leader Sam Rainsy’s public defamation case.

Presenting at court include Sam Rainsy and his three lawyers as the defendant, whereas the plaintiff includes the four French lawyers, and a group of Cambodian lawyers led by the premier Hun Sen’s lawyer Ky Tech.

Ky Tech told Fresh News that the complaint was filed since 2019. However, due to COVID19 pandemic and the French court’s legal procedures, the trial has just begun.

“During the hearing that lasted for four hours and 15 minutes, Sam Rainsy and his lawyers are summoned and questioned by three female judges. Rainsy is asked to provide evidences to his baseless accusations. Unfortunately, Rainsy could not answer the judges’ questions. Rainsy beats around the bush, fails to provide evidences, cries, and talks about his struggling in Cambodian politics instead,” Ky Tech said.

Lawyer Ky Tech said he is confident that the French court will make a decision that grants justice to Samdech Hun Sen and Dy Vichea.

“We are waiting for the court’s decision on 10 October 2022, but we are confident that there will be justice for prime minister and Dy Vichea,” Ky Tech added.

On 20 August 2019, premier Hun Sen and Dy Vichea filed a separate lawsuit to the French court against Sam Rainsy for "public defamation”. On 8 June 2020, the investigating judge has allegedly charged Sam Rainsy with public defamation.

In 2019, Sam Rainsy posted on his Facebook and spoke on US-backed radio VOA, baselessly accusing prime minister Hun Sen of (1) masterminding the killing of former national police chief Hok Lundy; 2) making lies on the cause of Hok Lundy’s death and (3) ordering the killing of former leader of the Free Trade Union of Workers Chea Vichea.

Rainsy accused the premier of lying that Hok Lundy was killed by the lightning. Rainsy baselessly accused Hun Sen of planting the bomb on the helicopter to kill Lundy.
