Kampong Speu (FN), Jun. 27 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen recalled his bitter past of 2002 ASEAN Chairmanship when Cambodia had just recovered from civil war and only had two five-star hotels to host ASEAN Summit.

The premier spoke on Tuesday morning (Jun 27) during his meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Kampong Speu.

"Frankly speaking, as the country's leader, I was despairing when we hosted the ASEAN Summit in 2002. At that time, we had two five-star hotels only. It was a sad thing, and I always thoughts about how other countries judged our kingdom. However, those countries could understand that we just recovered from the civil war," the premier said.

“2012 ASEAN Chairmanship was better, and that for 2022 ASEAN chairmanship, we did it well like any other countries," the premier continued.
