Beijing (FN), Oct. 18 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet asked Vietnamese president Vo Van Thuong to expedite the Phnom Penh-Bavet and Bavet-Ho Chi Minh Expressway negotiations to facilitate trade and tourism exchanges.

Both leaders held a working meeting on Wednesday morning (Oct. 18) in Beijing.

Taking this occasion, Vietnamese president congratulated premier Hun Manet on his recent appointment. He also conveyed a greeting message to Cambodian king Norodom Sihamoni and queen mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk as well as Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

Moreover, the Vietnamese president expressed optimism that under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei, Cambodia will be able to successfully implement all policies set at all levels, both nationally and internationally. Vo Van Thuong mentioned that Viet Nam still maintains close ties and cooperation with Cambodia for the common benefit of both nations and peoples.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei thanked for the meeting and recalled the meeting with the Vietnamese president four years ago, which was an opportunity for discussions to strengthen and expand cooperation between the two countries. In this regard, premier Hun Manet noted with pleasure the development of relations in all fields, in which the bilateral trade volume and the number of tourists between the two countries have also increased steadily, and cooperation in defense and human resource training is also very active.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei asked his Vietnamese counterpart to expedite the negotiations on the Phnom Penh-Bavet and Bavet-Ho Chi Minh Expressway, which will facilitate bilateral trade and tourism cooperation.

Lastly, both leaders agreed and highly appreciated the progress of bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially defense, security, trade, investment, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. Vietnamese president also proposed to increase senior leaders’ exchanges and his intention to invite the king, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and Samdech Thipadei to pay a visit to Vietnam. Samdech Thipadei accepted the invitation and will visit at any appropriate time.
